Katelynn McAllister

I am a strong proponent of TAB pedagogy.  Having embraced the practice for the past decade, I’ve seen its transformative impact on student agency and ownership of learning.  “Teaching for Artistic Behavior” is a student-centered educational model in which students become the architects of their artistic development, mirroring the autonomy of working artists.

In our studio, students set project timelines, define success criteria through self-created rubrics, and consider various media, elements, and techniques to convey their ideas effectively. Students actively assess their work and articulate their learning through artist statements.  I believe art education should be student centered, choice based, process oriented and collaborative.

Utilizing technology in the art studio is paramount to make learning more accessible and interactive. I created and maintain a multilingual website which acts as an instructional hub that can be accessed in and out of school.

Students use the site daily as a resource for reference images, tutorials, digital art making and other activities. I have created, curated and organized tutorials in English and Spanish for a variety of art media. I support and promote student innovation by including student generated tutorials and artwork on the site.
